A Pivot Into ... Making Video Games?

Yup, I'm making video games now. My goal for my business has not changed - I still want to help professionals handle mental health in the workplace. But I think video games can be used as a tool to help in that regard.

Why video games?

I enjoy reading blogs/books and listening to podcasts about personal development. One issue though is that these are all passive forms of interacting. Unless I specifically go out of my way to apply the practices from a book I tend to forget them. In contrast, video games are an active form of interaction. You have to pay attention and think about your next move. By expressing my ideas in a video game format I hope players will remember my strategies better.

So when can you play my first game?

It's available ... right now! It's called "How to Say No to Extra Work" and walks you through some strategies I've used to keep my workload at a reasonable level. Don't worry if you don't have much familiarity with video games - if you can read this email and can use a mouse you have all you need to play the game. You can download it for free from itch.io (if you're not familiar with itch.io, it's essentially a marketplace for independent game developers to upload their games).

Check it out and let me know what you think. If you have ideas for things that can be explored in a game setting feel free to let me know.
